Do you want to improve the performance, collaboration and effectiveness of your team?
Use the Webmaster® activity to build teams that can solve the initial complex challenge, then rapidly improve their performance by demonstrating strong collaboration amongst team members, effective communication, planning processes and time management skills.
Webmaster® is a versatile activity which also focuses on problem solving skills and techniques, high performance teamwork, and planning & monitoring skills.
Webmaster® can be used with three small sub-teams or one large team and can be used either in or outdoors.
This apparently simple activity makes great demands on teamwork! Team members are required to work out how to assemble a set of coloured metal and rope components to make a structure which is identical to a black and white design pattern that they have received.
There is only one answer to the problem and this has to be established through a process of logic and some trial and error. Detailed planning at this stage is ineffective as the theories must be tested in practice at an early stage.
The structure is built from three separate sections which interconnect. This means that a single team can work on all of the sections together from the beginning, or it allows for three sub-teams to work remotely in the early planning stage, only coming together at the final point of assembly.
Once the assembly is complete, the team must develop and rehearse a strategy for taking the structure to pieces and re-building it accurately against the clock in a tightly controlled 2-minute time-trial. As the pieces cannot be marked or pre-sorted they need to have a well-developed plan for identifying components and using manpower efficiently if they are to succeed.
The activity represents any workplace task in which a lengthy process of planning, decision-making and rehearsal must be undertaken before the project is delivered or ‘goes live’.
Webmaster is a large scale experiential problem solving activity to develop collaboration across teams. Participants are required to assemble a black and white diagram using coloured ropes with specific rules they have to adhere to. Once the diagram is completed, they are then asked to re-do the whole diagram again, under a strict time frame.
Webmaster explores how participants work together in an organised, and effective manner under pressure to solve a problem. This seemingly ‘easy’ task quickly becomes demanding as participants need to use effective communication and planning and monitoring to adhere to the time frame to improve their performance.
Collaboration between teams, time management, and effective planning is key in most workplace environments, and Webmaster is the ideal activity to gain a real insight into how individuals and teams work together for mutual success, from students working on a group project, to senior executives with multiple deadlines.
Webmaster can be used either in 3 sub-sections, allowing it to be used with smaller teams, or bringing 3 sections together for larger teams.
Webmaster is also part of our Education Sector Package, a specifically tailored package for lecturers & teachers using our activities with students and young people for developing the 5 key employability skills.
