Why use Chiji Processing Dice?

Chiji Processing Dice are an example of participant-directed processing: they help shift some of the responsibility for successful processing, and therefore deeper learning, from the facilitator to the participants during a processing session, or activity review, as part of Kolb reflective cycle.

The sequence of fact-finding, analysis and feelings, and transference not only takes participants through a progression for processing a specific event, but also presents an overall lesson on proper processing.

The Chiji dice are also intended to be fun.
They offer an alternative to straight question-and-answer review sessions, and the use of the blue Control die adds an element of chance that offers excitement and variety to traditional processing and experiential learning activity review methods.

The generic but useful processing questions supplied on each die face can be personalised for specific situations and learning objectives.

• Preplanned Customisation: establish predetermined outcomes for a specific activity and develop fact-finding, analysis and feeling, and transference questions for that event. Write them on the blank adhesive circles and attach them to the appropriate die.
  For example if the purpose of the group is to enhance cooperation, the fact-finding die might have questions asking for specific examples of teamwork, lack of teamwork, communication and lack of communication.
  
  
• Spontaneous Customisation: write questions during the experiential learning  activity/task completion, prompted by the facilitator’s observations.
  For example a breakdown in communication is observed, and then out of frustration, a member of the group takes authoritarian control of the group as a way to complete the task. The facilitator wants to process this event, so quickly writes questions on blank die circles such as: ‘How did you feel about one person taking charge of the group?’, or ‘Why did the communication process that had been used earlier, suddenly break down?’. As these are analysis/feelings questions they would be applied to the orange die.
