Perfect for groups of 5 to 30 participants, the EM4 Electric Maze consists of a 48-square grid that connects seamlessly to a dedicated smartphone app. As a facilitator, you easily programme a hidden safe path through the maze using the app. The team's objective is simple but demanding: navigate everyone across the grid within a strict 24-minute time limit without triggering the alarm.

The catch?

They can either talk and discuss their strategy, or they can walk the maze in silence—but they cannot do both at the same time. When someone steps on an active square, the alarm sounds, the control unit flashes, and the participant must accurately retrace their exact path back to the start.

This dynamic creates a highly engaging environment that forces teams to balance trial-and-error experimentation with structured planning. The EM3 version of the Electric Maze® was withdrawn from sale in May 2023 (then owned by RSVP Design) due to problems with availability of critical materials and supplier price increases.

The new EM4 design process started in 2022, and was completed following the final phase of live customer testing in Q3 2025.

Following that phase we invested in an early small production stock of the EM4 for limited pre-sales list for this new product in September 2025.

We now have stock available from the UK manufacturing site without pre-order.

The EM4 Electric Maze® is a new product design that contains all the possible operating functions of the EM3 version as outlined below, but includes a number of additional functions made possible by the updated technology included in this product redesign.

Still mazing after all these years !

I have used a version of the Electric Maze for more years than I care to remember - but many years, and many teams, and many clients later, I still do not know of piece of kit that provides the learning, the sudden awareness and the flexibility that the Maze does.
I am still discovering ways of using it to help different teams in different business and learning situations - I wouldn't be without it.

What I loved about the Maze, was the rich metaphors it provided for meaningful debriefing and transfer of learning into a variety of corporate settings.
It was the spring of 1987 when I was first exposed to the magic of the Electric Maze®. I was attending a workshop at the Pecos River Learning Center located outside Santa Fe, New Mexico in the Pecos wilderness. The moment I saw it and experienced it, I sensed incredible potential. My primary work is as a facilitator and trainer, working primarily with senior executives in private, public and not-for-profit corporations on four continents. What I loved about the Maze, was the rich metaphors it provided for meaningful debriefing and transfer of learning into a variety of corporate settings.

BMW, the Maze, and Me

It must have been in 1994—I was doing management training for BMW. They had just bought Rover and teambuilding among managers of different nationalities (and therefore different cultures) was high on their priority list. Also, the plant in Spartanburg, USA, began delivering the first vehicles.

At one of my two-week-seminars at the Bavarian training center of BMW the chief financial officer of BMW Korea was present. We used the Electric Maze intensively: Decision Making in Groups, Intercultural Differences and, above all, Dealing with Change were among the applications. One whole day was dedicated to always changing exercises with the Maze. And whenever participants thought that we had exhausted the possibilities of the Maze there came a new challenge.
I'm still using the same Electric Maze to this day—and it has never failed me!
