This beautifully designed set of 48 thought provoking questions can be used in lots of ways including coaching, personal reflection, one-to-one discussion and group work. The Good Question Cards are a simple but powerful tool to help prompt people to look at situations in a different way - taking a positive appreciative inquiry approach, which might help them see things differently. Use them to help generate good questions to ask as part of an experiential learning cycle review.

These cards are an ideal resource if you want to help people appreciate and build on the good things in their lives - their strengths, their successes and the positive people and circumstances around them.  These positive questions can be a powerful resource to help shift mindsets.

Here are some ideas for uses of the Good Question Cards

1. Personal Reflection

At the end of each day, take one card at random.
Read the question and reflect on your answer.
• Try to make this process part of your routine, so that you take a few minutes to do this every day.
• You might want to do this at the end of the working day, at dinner time (perhaps with family) or at bedtime.
• It’s a good idea to write down your reflections in a notebook and refer back to them at a later date.


Tip: You could use a version of this activity within a team.
Choose a card at random each day, or each week, and put it up on the wall. Ask everyone to write their reflections on a
sticky note and put them around the question.

2. Moving Towards Change

1. Take cards 25 to 48 and arrange them into the 3 colourcoded families.
2. Ask the person to choose 3 questions from each family and answer each in turn, moving from the lowest numbered card through to the highest.
3. After each set of 3 questions, ask them whether there’s anything they want to be doing differently, based on their responses.

Encourage them to create an action plan.
